Shelly Turtle

Shelly the Turtle made her way into the shop today under Mary's arm.  Shelly is so cute.  Mary's lucky godson Gabrielle is the lucky receipient of this special gift.  Mary you did such a beautiful job!  Shelly is made out of Plymouth Encore Chunky Tweed and Lamb's Pride Worsted andLimbo Mexiko.

Wallaby...May Newsletter Out!

Christiane knit this beautiful Wallaby by Cottage Creations for a 16 year old girl in Kazakhstan.  The yarn used in this project is Lamb's Pride.  She is involved in the group called Wool Aid that is a community of knitters and crocheters who create warm woolen garments for children who live in cold climates and have the least access to resources.  Christiane is thinking of having another class in this sweater sometime soon.  Let us know if you have any interest in this class.

t's time for more classes again, and it seemed that socks were the favorite class for April.  This got my juices going and I started digging around looking at all my sock books that I've collected through the years and VIOLA....I found a book called "Queen Kahuna's Crazy Toes and Heels".  Many of you who have been in the shop this past month have heard me talk about this book.  I've made a pair of socks from it using  the toe up technique and found it to be my new favorite book.  I'm listing this as a class that I will be happy to teach and we will meet regularly and knit the sock together.  You will learn new techniques and be very surprised with your results and how much fun it is to knit.

LACE CAPELET

Featured on the cover of the Spring/Summer  2010 issue of Vogue Knitting, this lovely capelet is perfect for spring and cool summer evenings. Its soft feminine design has an edging that can be folded back to form a collar. Make it in some of the beautiful DK yarns in the shop. We have a great selection for you to choose from!

With 3674 projects, this fun scarf is one of the very popular patterns on ravelry. Garter stitch, fun yarn and beautiful drape makes it a must have neckwear.

The pattern is written for three sizes. All of them are featured in the shop, thanks to Marge.

Saturday, May 22nd, 9:30 am - 11:00 am.

Queen Kahuna Crazy Toes and Heels Sock Book is a must to buy in order to take this class. The book will be available in the shop for those of you who sign up.   

This book is the "original" any gauge sock formula book.  Use any yarn...Knit at any gauge...Make any size sock from one sock formula.  We will be teaching this on two circular needles and toe up.

Greenway Afghan...Phoebe's Sweater

Greenway Afghan

Color therapists tout green as the most restful color. With that in mind we aimed for the ultimate in restfulness with this afghan, combining four shades of green with a neutral. Two rows of crocheted cluster stitch combine to form pretty, daisy-shaped blocks of color, with each daisy fitting neatly into the next.

This free pattern is also available in the new afghan book Comfort Knitting & Crochet Afghans by the Berrocco Design Team which we have in the shop.  This afghan is knit from Berroco Comfort.

I found this sweet project in Ravelry this morning and couldn't resist sharing.

Bears & Gnomes

Sheila has joined the shop as part of the team...and we are thrilled about that!  She will be teaching classes beginning in January, so stay tuned for a class she'll be doing at the end of January.  If you can't wait to hear about it before the newsletter comes out...pop into the shop to find out what it is!  In the meantime here is one of her beautiful sweaters.  This sweater is called Babies & Bears Sweater for Grown-Ups.  This is one of the patterns by Carol Anderson of Cottage Creations.  She offers a unique variety of patterns, which we carry in the shop...that include an afghan, hats, sweaters and toys. The yarn  used for this project was Lambs Pride.  The booklets are fun to read through and have a unique style developed by a dedicated hand-knitter of a small cottage business.  We enjoy supporting small companies when we can.

Look who showed up at the shop....Mr. Gnome!  He doesn't have a name yet....any ideas?  Linda knit this gnome out of an old pattern she had from when her daughter was little.  She enjoys knitting toys of all sorts.   She used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride to knit the body.  His face is knit out of Shetland Jamieson wool and he's stuffed with wool.  In the waldorf tradition of toymaking dolls and toys don't typically have faces so that the child can imbue the toy with his or her own imagination.
